PROTECTING DEMOCRACY
When Rose Lounsbury takes a seat in the statehouse, she will fight for the rights of all Ohioans to be heard.
She will advocate for an end to gerrymandering. She will push to increase voting rights through simple, proven measures such as same-day voter registration and automatic voter registration. She will demand an end to the unnecessary and undemocratic voter purges that disproportionately affect voters who happen to be young, poor, or people of color. She will listen to you, her constituents.
For much of Rose’s life, she thought democracy was a “given” that took care of itself. The August 8th special election in Ohio changed this. The special election—which cost Ohio taxpayers $18 million dollars—was aimed at silencing the voice of the majority of Ohio voters to affect constitutional change. This is a clear example of the threat democracy faces in Ohio, a threat perpetuated by the very legislators who are supposed to represent the voters they claim to serve.
This is just one example of the anti-democratic abuses of power undertaken by the current state legislature. From extreme partisan gerrymandering to strict voter ID laws aimed at disenfranchising young voters and voters of color, the current Ohio Statehouse has become a textbook example of what happens when lawmakers feel no accountability to the people they are supposed to serve and represent.
Support Rose’s candidacy and help make sure that this ends now.
