LABOR

Rose comes from a long line of organized workers. Her grandfather was a coal miner in southeast Ohio.

Because of his United Mine Workers pension, her grandmother was able to live with dignity and appropriate medical care well into her nineties. Rose’s parents both worked as public school teachers and taught her the importance of supporting organized labor.

“Support the union, because they support you,” her dad, a lifetime union representative, told her. As a result, when Rose became a school teacher herself, she served as a union rep in her district, supporting her fellow teachers in the collective bargaining process and learning to advocate for educators at the state level.

Rose believes that when unions are under attack, democracy is under attack. The only reason to try to break a union is to make rich people richer. Ohio was built by humble, hardworking men and women like her grandfather and her parents. People like them deserve safe working conditions, living wages that can support a family, affordable healthcare, and a dignified retirement. Unions have provided that for her family, and when you vote for Rose, she'll take your voice to the statehouse and fight to ensure that strong Ohio unions exist to provide that for your working family, too.
